Introduction to Literary Analysis

Course Description: In this course, students will gain an understanding of how to study literature through reading at least six classic works, annotating their texts, and writing analysis paragraphs and essays concerning the works. Students will learn how to cite and document texts properly and write a research paper including an outline, notecards, bibliography cards, parenthetical citations, and a Works Cited. Students will write a literary analysis paragraphs weekly and will write one literature based research paper during the year. Students will be exposed to researching background information about the text and its author as well as receive an introduction to credible secondary literary sources. Homework involving reading the literature, annotating the text, and writing literary analysis paragraphs and/or essays will be assigned each week. As students are exposed to different time periods, themes, and cultures through the literature, discussion of ideas will be presented from a Biblical worldview. Students must have access at home to a computer/laptop/iPad and the internet for this class. Students are required to bring a laptop/iPad to class. Grades and assignments will be shared through Google Classroom. Students will be encouraged to do their best and develop the skills and talent that God has given them in the area of academic writing.
