Introduction to Literary Analysis
Taught by Beth Moore
Course Description: In this course, students will gain an understanding of how to study literature through reading at least six classic works, annotating their texts, and writing analysis paragraphs and essays concerning the works. Students will learn how to cite and document texts properly and write a research paper including an outline, notecards, bibliography cards, parenthetical citations, and a works cited. After reading each text, they will write a literary analysis paragraphs or essay and will write one literature-based research paper during the year. Students will be exposed to researching background information about the text and its author as well as receive an introduction to credible secondary literary sources. Homework involving reading the literature, annotating the text, and writing literary analysis paragraphs and/or essays will be assigned in some capacity each week. As students are exposed to different time periods, themes, and cultures through the literature, discussion of ideas will be presented from a Biblical worldview.
